Camper trips in Mallorca

For motorhomes, Mallorca is an island of parking, not camping. Wild camping is banned across the Balearics by regional law and is actively enforced on the coast and in the Serra de Tramuntana by Seprona, Ibanat and the coastal authority. Sleeping in a parked motorhome has been governed since 1 October 2026 by the new Reglamento General de Circulación (RD 518/2026, art. 92.4): the vehicle rests on its tyres only, nothing extends beyond its outline (no awning, chairs or levelling legs) and nothing is discharged. That counts as parking, and parking is allowed wherever a car may park unless a sign says otherwise. Municipalities may restrict time and place, and many coastal ones do: Pollença, Alcúdia, Santanyí, Capdepera and Andratx ban motorhomes on beach car parks, often at night only. Read the signs at every car park entrance.

Legal overnight options are few. Camping Club San Pedro at Colònia de Sant Pere is the island's only real campsite; the municipal motorhome area at Son Serra de Marina (Santa Margalida, 21 pitches, water, disposal, electricity, around 16 euros, maximum 10 nights, booked through the TripStop app) has been the only fully serviced aire since summer 2025. At Lluc monastery you may stay overnight on the paid car park. Free disposal and fresh water at the Punt Verd in Son Castelló, Palma. So plan Mallorca as a base camp with day trips: the island measures 100 by 75 kilometres and everything is within an hour and a half.

Roads: the Ma-10 through the Tramuntana is fine; the descent to Sa Calobra (Ma-2141) is not advisable with a motorhome over six metres, take the boat from Port de Sóller instead. The road to Cap de Formentor is closed to private traffic during the day from June to September, with a bus from Port de Pollença. Car parks at popular calas (Cala Agulla, Es Trenc, Mondragó) close in the evening. Arrive by ferry from Barcelona, Valencia, Dénia or Toulon and book the vehicle early, as decks are full in July and August.
