Why this stop
Jönköping sits at the southern tip of Lake Vättern, Sweden's second-largest lake. It is a pleasant base for exploring the lake and its surroundings.
The route
E4 further south along the eastern shore of Vättern. At Gränna the road runs right beside the water; the Jönköping exit is at the southern tip of the lake.
What to do
Walk along the long sandy beach in the middle of the city. Visit the Tändsticksmuseet (match museum), which tells the story of the city as a match-producing town.
Camper advice
Drive a stretch along the eastern side of Lake Vättern towards Gränna. The road is beautiful and you can taste the famous red-and-white candy canes (polkagris).
Where to stay
Search area: on the shores of Lake Vättern, just outside Jönköping. Criteria: pitches with a lake view, water and power. Reserve: recommended, certainly for waterside pitches.
Plan B for bad weather
In poorer weather, enjoy a fika (coffee break) in one of the many cafés in the centre.

- · Parking during the day: parking in the centre can be tricky. Park at one of the larger supermarkets on the edge and walk or cycle into town.
