Barcelona / Valencia / Dénia – Balearic Islands (Mallorca / Ibiza / Menorca)
Barcelona (ES) → Palma de Mallorca (ES)
- Year-round
- Overnight ferry
Key facts
Overland alternative: the Balearic Islands have no overland route
MOTORHOME ALERT: Trasmed often doesn't take large motorhomes/caravans — choose GNV or Baleària; state height and length honestly
Ferry or drive on? Do the mathsDeparture port & check-in
Not reliably establishable: the operators (Baleària, Trasmed, GNV) publish differing windows per sailing and per terminal, and these could not be verified for this corridor. Allow at least 1.5 to 2 hrs with a vehicle and check the exact boarding time on your own ticket, because in the port of Barcelona you first have to cross the sprawling port area before you reach the right terminal.
Facilities at the terminal
-
Fresh water
Water and grey water disposal at Parking Iglesias (Montjuïc); full service at Área Camperland Sant Boi.
-
Chemical toilet
At Área Camperland Sant Boi and the campsites.
-
Showers
At the campsites; not at Parking Iglesias.
-
Fuel
Petrol stations in the Zona Franca and along the Ronda Litoral.
-
Gas & LPG
GLP is available in Spain but thin on the ground in urban areas; you need the Spanish connector.
-
Groceries
Supermarkets at the campsites and in Sant Boi; in central Barcelona there is virtually nowhere you can go with a motorhome.

Barcelona is emphatically not a motorhome-friendly city: staying overnight in the open is prohibited and the rule is enforced. Expect to put your motorhome on a paid site and take the metro or FGC into the city - a T-Familiar for zone 1 costs around €5.75 per day for two people and soon saves you €40-60 over three days.

GLP availability on Mallorca is limited; count on bottles.
The city of Palma has laid down in its new ordenanza cívica that overnight stays in motorhomes within the city are fined - motorhome organisations have publicly protested against this. Elsewhere on Mallorca the legal distinction applies between 'estacionar' (parking, permitted as long as no sign prohibits it), 'pernoctar' (sleeping in the vehicle, permitted in a car park where it is allowed as long as nothing else is indicated) and 'acampar' (winding out the awning, putting tables, chairs or levelling blocks outside - that is prohibited in public car parks). Wild camping is illegal; staying overnight in woodland, in the mountains, on country roads and in unregulated zones is not allowed. Use park4night or Caramaps, but always read the signs on the spot.
The port of Palma is right by the city centre; drive out of the city as quickly as you can towards the Serra de Tramuntana or the east coast and look for a legal spot there.
Border, documents & rules
A domestic Spanish route: no border control or customs, but an identity check on boarding.
Motorhome tips
Book months ahead for July/Aug; overnighting on Mallorca only on campsites/authorised pitches (strict policy, few campsites — arrange in advance)
