Overnight stays allowed
Practically on the Skandinavienkai, which is why it is so widely used for the night before the ferry. About 200 pitches, sanitary facilities, laundry and a cooking area, restaurant, playgrounds, a natural swimming pond and internet. Cabins and glamping too. Current rates are on their own site.
Getting there: the A1 towards Lübeck, then the A226 for the Skandinavienkai exit. Do not put 'Travemünde Strand' into your sat nav - the Skandinavienkai is on the opposite side of the Trave from the beach and the resort, and there is no through connection without a detour or the small ferry.

Overnight: check in advance
Literally next to the ferry terminal in the port of Trelleborg - the best direct arrival option of any Baltic corridor. 43 places, 18 of them with electricity, toilets, drinking water and latrinetömning (cassette disposal). Season 1 March - 30 November. Tel. 0410-30 17 70.
LPG autogas is scarce in Sweden; Swedish gas bottles cannot be exchanged for German ones. Fill or exchange in Germany before you sail.
Drive on the right, just as in Germany. Card payment only is the norm; Sweden is largely cashless. From Trelleborg the E6 runs straight north to Malmö and the Öresund Bridge (toll) or east to Ystad. Swedish speed enforcement is strict and the drink-drive limit is 0.2 per mille.
Because the ställplats is right next to the terminal, you can stop as soon as you land after a late arrival instead of driving on in the dark.
Border, documents & rules
Germany-Sweden is EU and Schengen: no passport control at the border, but the ferry operator does check identity at check-in. No customs quotas of the Norwegian kind. Swedish alcohol rules: purchase only at Systembolaget, import for your own use within the EU indicative quantities.
Motorhome tips
On overnight sailings a cabin or (cheap) reclining seat is mandatory; power hook-up for the motorhome fridge possible on board; max 60 l spare fuel, gas valve closed
